IMS Quarterly Newsletter Now Available – Volume 2 Issue 2 June 2021

WELCOME to the second newsletter for 2021!

What’s in this quarter’s newsletter?

We are very pleased to release the fifth newsletter (Vol. 2, Issue 2) of the
International Mycorrhiza Society (IMS).

Many thanks to all who contributed to this newsletter, especially to César Marín, the newsletter editor, and to the topic editors Justine Karst, Jason Hoeksema, and Jonathan Plett.

Many thanks to a wide range of mycorrhizal researchers who have written interesting highlights about their own ongoing mycorrhizal research, and/or to those that have appeared in our YouTube interviews.

Please contact us if you wish to be interviewed or to write a short article for an upcoming IMS newsletter (cesar.marin@uoh.cl).

The purpose of this newsletter is to provide you with information and recent highlights and news regarding the symbiosis between plants and mycorrhizal fungi.

Included in this publication:

  • a detailed editorial, contributed by IMS President Marcel van der Heijden and IMS Newsletter Editor Cesar Marin, on legislating on soil biodiversity.
  • a list of the top ten mycorrhizal papers from across different disciplines and published in the last few months, selected by a panel of experts.
  • two short research articles/commentaries providing new research insights on phosphorous deficiencies and ectomycorrhizal adaptations in the Pacific Northwest and how AMF enhance mineralization of organic P.
  • links to three YouTube video interviews — Isabel Mujica on orchid mycorrhizal, soil nutrients, and fungal pathogens; Diana H. Wall & Carlos A. Guerra on Soil BON: global Soil Biodiversity Observation Network; Felipe Albornoz revisitng mycorrhizal dogmas.
  • Other items include the Tools list, IMS news (including membership reminder), important events.

Do you have announcements or relevant information for this newsletter,  or are you interested in writing a research contribution?

We are looking for PhDs, Postdoc, Researchers and Professors who would like to write a short news article to highlight your own research or an important development in mycorrhizal research field (e.g. themes related to the molecular biology, physiology, ecology, evolution and agricultural relevance of the mycorrhizal symbiosis or the different types of mycorrhizal fungi).

Also, we are searching for nominations (including self-nominations) for YouTube interviews about various aspects of mycorrhizal research (including major research breakthroughs or activities within the mycorrhizal community that have relevance for agriculture, the environment or practical implications).

Please contact the newsletter editor César Marín (cesar.marin@uoh.cl) for questions, announcements, or further information an the selection procedure for articles and YouTube interviews.

We hope you appreciate this newsletter. Please provide feedback for improvements or further suggestions.

Yours Sincerely,
The IMS Board + Newsletter Editorial Board
